Beyond the Basin: The Faces and Festivities of Bugsworth

This page is about the local folk, past and present, and community events that keep the village ticking today! While we get some more stories from the area’s past history. Lets focus on what’s happening here and now—celebrating the characters and gatherings that make the place what it is.

🚧 Please Note:

The page is currently a bit of a work in progress while more stories and local updates get sorted, but new bits and pieces will be added as things get up and running.

To get the ball rolling, here’s a video that takes a look at the family, who keep the historic steam engine Maud Foster running and roaring:

A family fuelled by steam!

The Bugsworth Steam Party

The Bugsworth Steam Party (often called the Buxworth Steam Weekend) is the village’s standout annual bash. Centered right around the War Memorial Club and a stone’s throw from the historic canal basin, this two-day community festival brings the area’s industrial past roaring back to life.

The event pulls in a cracking turnout of vintage machinery, from massive steam traction engines and old-school tractors to classic cars and military vehicles. It’s a proper hands-on weekend where folk can get right up close to the magnificent old beasts and chat with the owners who keep them ticking.

But it’s not just for the gearheads; it’s a brilliant community get-together. The club grounds and nearby park transform into a full-on family festival featuring:

  • Live Music & Entertainment: Local bands keeping the atmosphere buzzing into the evening.

  • Food & Drink: Plenty of proper local grub and award-winning ales served up by the Club.

  • Family Fun: Giant bouncy castles, games, and entertainment to keep the kids happy.

Top Tip from the Locals: Because the village gets absolutely rammed with cars over the weekend, many regulars reckon the absolute best way to turn up to the party is by narrowboat along the Peak Forest Canal!
