Beautiful Spring Bank Holiday 2026

A Great Turnout for the Spring Bank Holiday

It was brilliant to see Bugsworth Basin so busy over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. The weather turned out beautifully, and the basin was busy with people hanging out and enjoying the sunshine. The quick drone video and photo gallery captures the basin blessed with sunshine and many boats —it’s the most boats seen there for quite a while, which was lovely to see!

The kilns, peering through years of overgrowth

While it’s fantastic that so many boaters made the effort to travel down, boats were leaving half way through the weekend. Which did highlight why the current 48-hour mooring limit may not be working. Extending the rule would give visitors a proper chance to unwind and enjoy the area after a long journey.

It would also be much kinder to the basin itself; the constant churning from motorised boats coming and going every 48 hours puts a lot of stress on the fragile dry stone canal walls—damage that the CRT simply doesn’t have the budget to fix. Letting boats stay a bit longer would keep the basin vibrant while protecting its historic infrastructure.

What a lovely Spring Bank Holiday 2026 at Bugsworth Basin!
