As a regular at Bugsworth Basin, I absolutely love it, there’s nothing quite like a peaceful stroll and a bit of people watching. Saw a lovely little boat sail in yesterday, and those are the moments that make this spot so special.
That said, I have noticed it’s looking tired since the heritage trust stopped and the Canal and River Trust took over. Potholes and sinkholes which were regularly fixed by the old warden and team are now just left for years to grow, with no obvious actions taken.
The trackway access is dreadful too, which is a shame.
This is a wonderful place that deserves proper care and upkeep. With a bit of love, it could easily be brilliant again, and I really hope we see some improvements soon.
